- The Hobey Baker Memorial Trophy is given
- every year to the best college hockey player
- in the United States. The award was first
- presented on April 1, 1981, to Neal Broten
- of the University of Minnesota. Neal had
- been a member of the U.S. Olympic Hockey
- Team that won a gold medal in 1980. He
- became an NHL All-Star with the Minnesota
- North Stars (now the Dallas Stars).

- sota, now with the Los Angeles Kings), Kip
- Miller (of Michigan State University, now
- with the Dallas Stars), Scott Pellerin (of the
- University of Maine, now with the New

- University of Maine, now with the Mighty
- Ducks of Anaheim).
